Dean Classic

Just a quick follow up on the Dean Classic.

Kyleigh Dean has been a beneficiary of the Make-A-Wish program. They got her to be a honorary Carolina Panther. Kyleigh signed a contract and got cool gear and practiced with the Panthers and got to meet the Team. Ky has made many friends on the Panthers. This is why she loves the Make-Wish-Program.

The Dean Classic was able to raise over $400 for the Make-A-Wish Campaign in the name of Kyleigh. 100% of the registration proceeds, T-shirt sales and concessions were part of the donation. SC-USAW paid the sanction fees and got special permission through USA Wrestling to make the Dean Classic a no-card tournament.

Kyleigh presented a donation check on Wednesday, April 17 to the Spartanburg Chapter of Make-A-Wish for $466. Kyleigh wants to thank everyone for coming out and participating in this fundraising event. She hopes that next year the turnout will be better so she can make a bigger donation.

SC-USAW announces new Awards and procedures.

The custom made SC-USAW Triple Crown Trophy

In our efforts to improve each year and provide a better tournament experience. SC-USAW is doing some pretty exciting stuff.

For starters all tournaments will be 3-style (Ironman). This has been brought about from our hosts wanting to provided the opportunity for more Folkstyle wrestlers to check out Freestyle and Greco. All Host are providing Custom Ironman Awards for their specific tournament, to be presented at the Freestyle and Greco State Championships on June 1st. You will still get top 3 placement medals for the 3-styles at the tournament provided by SC-USAW with podium presentations.

Then we are still providing a belt for the double winners of Greco-Roman and Freestyle State Championships. This year SC-USAW will be providing a new style of belts, similar to the Belt Point Series belt.

This year SC-USAW is offering you a chance to be a South Carolina Triple Crown winner. The winner will earn the SC-USAW Triple Crown Trophy. To qualify you must:

  1. Be from South Carolina.
  2. Be the highest placing South Carolina Wrestler in your Age and Weight Class in the SC-USAW Folkstyle State Championships on March 16 at Fort Mill High School.
  3. Be the highest placing South Carolina Wrestler in your Age and Weight Class in the SC-USAW Greco-Roman State Championships on June 1st at White Knoll High School.
  4. Be the highest placing South Carolina Wrestler in your Age and Weight Class in the SC-USAW Freestyle State Championships on June 1st at White Knoll High School.

It is just that simple. You must be at all of the above mentioned events to qualify.

Just remember, all Ironman awards, Belts and Triple Crown Trophies will be presented at White Knoll on June 1st for the Freestyle and Greco-Roman State Championships. Don't forget to bring your shopping carts and dump trucks to take home all of your winnings and awards on June 1st.

SC-USA Wrestling has established SRTCs.

SC-USAW is excited to announce the establishment of State Regional Training Centers (SRTC). Four local colleges have stepped up to support SC-USAW in our goals of developing more All-Americans and National Champions by becoming SRTCs. Hopefully, we will be able to bring on one or two more in the future to have better State coverage. Any athlete that wants to train at one of these facilities must have a USA Wrestling Membership Card. You will be able to train in all three styles of wrestling at any of the SRTCs. The purpose of the Training Centers is to supplement your training at your school/club in addition to hosting camps and clinics. These Centers are available to both boys and girls of any age. Please contact the center that you want to train with about dates and times. The State Regional Training Centers and the Coach in Charge are listed below:

Charleston SRTC - Cody Cleveland (The Citadel Assistant Wrestling Coach)

Coker SRTC - Derek Nelson (Head Wrestling Coach)

Limestone SRTC - Kelly Revelles (Head Wrestling Coach) or Brandy Green (Women's Wrestling Coach)

Presbyterian SRTC - Mark Cody (Director of Wrestling Ops)

These SRTCs have the full support of SC-USA Wrestling and we encourage all athletes to take advantage of this opportunity.
